Doctor Musonda started her career as Natural Resources Management officer in the Environmental Council of Zambia. In between two positions at WWF International, she obtained a PhD in Wetland Hydrology from University College London. She also worked for over 8 years as UNEP’s Coordinator for Ecosystem-based Adaptation Flagship Programme, before becoming the head of the agency’s Terrestrial Ecosystems Team and the UNEP lead on Terrestrial Ecosystems for the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

She directed the UNDP Rome Center from 2021 to August 2022, when she was nominated Secretary General of the Convention of Wetlands. 

Musonda is also a mother of two gorgeous earthlings – 9 year old Sanaa and 6 year old Shay. Her interests including abstract painting, cooking, cycling and doodling/drawing with her kids.
