Through 27 years of work in public health, disability rights, food security, development studies, and humanitarian emergencies, Vanmala has realized that sustainable positive change in the external world is possible only with the inner transformation of individuals. After completing her PhD in Social Welfare from the University of Pennsylvania, she taught in universities in Canada, India and the USA where she engaged students with critical pedagogy to question received dominant notions. Since 2012, she has taught in Global Nutrition and Health in the University College Copenhagen (earlier Metropolitan University College).

Reflections on whether nutrition for the physical body can be complete without nourishment for the inner being led her to develop a new course on resilience and inner well-being that engages students in positive health, mindfulness, creativity, yoga (union), heartfulness, consciousness and inner transformation. She draws inspiration from Nature and listening to Life.
